FAQ
What is a Fire Hazard Severity Zone (FHSZ)?
FHSZs are state-mapped areas classified Moderate, High or Very High based on fuel, slope, fire weather and other factors. They are produced by CAL FIRE and the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM).
Is my Yorba Linda home in a Very High zone?
Check your address in CAL FIRE’s official lookup and ask your insurer, agent or escrow officer. Our map shows the state data for orientation only and is not a legal determination.
Why are there two layers on the map?
One is the interim combined dataset CAL FIRE publishes for real-estate inspections (effective State Responsibility Area zones plus local-area zones recommended in 2007–2011). The other is the newer Local Responsibility Area map dated March 24, 2025, which is a state recommendation; local adoption controls when it takes effect.
